T. Jefferson Parker is an American author of crime fiction, best known for his series of novels featuring private investigator and former police officer, Charlie Hood. He was born on March 23, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. Parker attended the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a degree in English. He began writing in the late 1970s, and his first novel, Laguna Heat, was published in 1985. Since then, he has written more than twenty novels, including the Charlie Hood series, the Merci Rayborn series, and the stand-alone novels Silent Joe and California Girl. Parker has won numerous awards for his work, including the Edgar Award, the Anthony Award, the Shamus Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. He has also been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Parker is married to his wife, Mary, and they have two children. He currently lives in Orange County, California.

Parker was born in 1953 in Los Angeles, California, and he has lived his entire life in Southern California. He was named T. Jefferson Parker. The "T" doesn't stand for anything. His mother said she thought it would look good on the presidential letterhead. He was educated in public schools and received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine in English. He began his writing career as a journalist for The Newport Ensign. Parker later switched jobs to the Daily Pilot, winning three Orange County Press Club Awards. It was at this time that he began writing his first novel, Laguna Heat. He received the Edgar Award for Best Novel in 2002 for Silent Joe and again in 2005 for California Girl. In 2008, his short story "Skinhead Central" won Parker another Edgar award, making him one of the elite few writers to have won the Edgar three times.
