Saxena was born in Pune, India, and graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi in 1977. He then went on to earn an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. Saxena began his career in venture capital in the early 1980s, when he joined the venture capital firm of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He then went on to become a partner at the firm in 1985. In 2006, he founded New Silk Route, a private equity and venture capital firm focused on investments in India and other emerging markets. Saxena is a member of the board of directors of several companies, including the Indian School of Business, the Indian Institute of Technology, and the Indian Institute of Management. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Saxena is married and has two children.
