Jacinda Kate Laurell Ardern is a New Zealand politician who served as New Zealand's 40th Prime Minister and leader of the Labor Party since 2017. First elected to the House of Representatives as a List Member in 2008, she has been a Member of Parliament for Mount Albert since March 2017. Born in Hamilton, Ardern grew up in Morrinsville and Murupara, where she attended public school. After graduating from Waikato University in 2001, Ardern began his career as a researcher in Prime Minister Helen Clark's office. She later worked in London, in the Cabinet Office, and was elected president of the International Socialist Youth Union. Ardern was first elected as a congressman in the 2008 general election, when Labor lost power after nine years. She was then elected to represent Mount Albert's voters in a secondary election in February 2017 .
