William Oliver Stone is an American director, producer and screenwriter. Stone won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay as a screenwriter for Midnight Express and wrote a gangster screenplay remake of Scarface. Stone is best known as the writer and director of the war film Platoon, which won the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture. Platoon is the first in a Vietnam War-based trilogy in which Stone plays an infantry soldier. He continued the series with Born 4/7 - the film where Stone won his second Academy Award for Best Director - and Heaven & Earth. Other Stone works include the Salvador movie, based on the Salvadoran civil war; the Wall Street financial movie and its sequel, Money Never Sleeps; Biographical film by Jim Morrison The Doors; the black satirical comedy detective Natural Born Killers; a trilogy based on US presidents: JFK, Nixon, and W.; and Snowden.
