Halimah binti Yacob is a Singaporean politician. She is the outgoing President of Singapore after being elected in an unconfirmed election in the 2017 Singapore presidential election. She is the first woman president in the history of this country. Halimah won an untested election because no other presidential candidate has obtained the eligibility certificate. Formerly a member of the ruling People's Action Party, she was a congressman of Jurong GRC from 2001 to 2015 and Marsiling - Yew Tee GRC from 2015 to 2017. She was sworn to become a Muslim. Monday since Yusof Ishak in 1965. She was the 9th Speaker of the National Assembly of Singapore from 2013 to 2017, she resigned to participate in the 2017 Singapore presidential election.
