Timeline

On January 2, 2017, a reporter from the JTBC Newsroom, Lee Ga-hyuk, found a Volkswagen vehicle parked in a hideout garage, a crucial clue to the Chung Yoo-Ra chase at a house outside Aalborg, Denmark, by a Korean resident in Denmark. Chung Yoo-Ra was arrested by Danish police on suspicion of illegal immigration after he tracked down the vehicle and reported it to local police for illegal aliens.

On April 17, 2017, the Korea Racing Association expelled Chung Yoo-ra permanently due to sports-related admissions irregularities. Accordingly, Chung Yoo-Ra is not allowed to represent Korea in international competitions as well as in Korean competitions and must return the national team's training allowance.

In December 2016, South Korea put out an arrest warrant for Chung Yoo-ra for charges including obstruction of justice, after she refused to return from Germany to attend a parliamentary inquiry into her role in the scandal. The South Korean government announced that it would invalidate her passport and seek her arrest and extradition from Germany. The South Korean government also sought the help of Interpol to track her down. On January 1, 2017, she was arrested in Aalborg, Denmark after a tip from South Korean journalists who had tracked her.

She is a daughter of Chung Yoon-hoi and his ex-wife Choi Soon-sil, who has been arrested amid the 2016 South Korean political scandal for using her friendship with the president Park Geun-hye to illegally interfere in the state affairs, and solicit business donations from top South Korean firms, including Samsung, for a non-profit fund she controlled.

When Chung Yoo-Ra was in Cheongdam High School, she was disqualified for failing to complete her class days. Choi Soon-sil protested about it. Chung Yoo-Ra could receive an official letter from the Korea Racing Association and it was accepted. But the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education reviewed her high school graduation and canceled her decision on December 5, 2016, citing the fact that she gave a bribe to a teacher, received a perfect score from a performance evaluation she did not attend and submitted the fake documents to participate in the competition.

On December 2, 2016, the Ewha Woman's University Special Audit Committee requested that Chung Yoo-Ra leave school, cancel her admission, and discipline her teachers, and received the notice of cancellation of admission and high school graduation through her lawyer on December 5, 2016, and decided not to take legal action.

During the investigations of the 2016 South Korean political scandal, Chung Yoo-ra's admission to Ewha Womans University was cancelled due to "preferential treatment in admissions and grading". Her high school diploma has been cancelled as well due to falsified high school records.
