Residing in Seattle, Washington, where he works as a piano teacher. [April 2004]

He focused his attention on the Los Angeles music scene, living with his brother Jeff at the time, in 1978 he was introduced to The Motels through his brother, who had been the band's guitarist.

In January of 1976, he enrolled at the University of Southern California, where he attended for one semester.

On the morning of December 2, 1974, Marty's father died suddenly, at the age of 48, while repairing his car which suddenly fell on top of him, killing him instantly. During this time, Marty enrolled at Santa Fe Community College, a local junior college in Gainesville.

After he graduated high school, he enrolled at Clark University, in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he attended from 1972-1973. He felt homesick and felt he didn't fit in to the east coast lifestyle, so he returned home to Florida.

In the fall of 1965, Marty and his family returned to Florida.

When Marty was in fourth grade, his family moved to London, England from the summer of 1964 to the fall of 1965, because his father was on sabbactical and chose to study in London with a noted psychiatrist.

Marty was born in Atlanta, Georgia. But his family moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1958 and he was raised in Gainesville. His parents were orginally Canadians of Eastern European descent. His father was a psychologist and a professor at the University of Florida.
